We're Nyantaboma School
We are part of a small rural community in Western Uganda with big dreams. More than 500 children, from nursery to Primary 7, learn here every day.
Quality Education for Every Child in Nyantaboma
Our mission is to provide quality, inclusive and accessible education to every child in Nyantaboma, empowering them to break the cycle of poverty and become leaders in their community. The school was started in 2012 by local families and Charles Musana, a teacher who grew up in the village, because there were so few schools nearby. Since 2015 it has been cared for by the Nyantaboma Development Initiative.

A Whole School, Built by Its Community
From a three-year-old's first day in Baby Class to a thirteen-year-old sitting the national leaving exam, and everything it takes to get them there.
Nursery Section
Baby, Middle and Top Class for children aged three to six. Opened in 2022 so that village children start primary school knowing their letters, their numbers and how a classroom works.
Primary School
Primary 1 to Primary 7, taught by twelve teachers. Lessons begin in Rutooro and move into English. Last year 94% of our candidates passed the Primary Leaving Examination.
Child Sponsorship
£60 keeps a child in school for a year. Sponsors cover fees for families who cannot, and receive a report and a letter every term.
School Meals
Porridge at break and a cooked lunch for children who would otherwise go without. Attendance has risen from 84% to 91% since the programme began.
Building Classrooms
Our classrooms are timber and iron sheets. We are replacing them, one block at a time, with brick rooms built by village labour. Block 1 is at window height.
Sport, Music & Community
Football, netball, choir and drama, a sports day the whole village attends, and volunteers from around the world who come to teach, coach and build.
Building Projects under way

Permanent Classroom Block 1
Two brick classrooms for fifty pupils each, replacing the oldest timber rooms. Concrete floors, glazed windows, a ceiling to deaden the rain, and lightning protection. Built by local builders with locally fired bricks.

School Garden & Meals Programme
Half an acre of vegetables supplying the school kitchen, tended by Primary 3 and 4 as part of their agriculture lessons. Supports porridge at break and a cooked lunch for children who would otherwise go without.
Two Sections, One School
Side by side in Nyantaboma village, Harugongo, in the hills near Fort Portal.

Nursery Section
Baby, Middle and Top Class for children aged three to six. Opened in 2022 so that village children start primary school ready to learn.

Primary Section
Primary 1 to Primary 7 for children aged six to fourteen. Around 370 pupils in five classroom blocks, with the first permanent brick block now under construction.
